About Christmas Beetles:
Christmas Beetles belong to the genus Anoplognathus. Anoplognathus is endemic to Australia, except one species shared with New Guinea. There are 36 species, 21 of which occur in New South Wales. Adult beetles feed on leaves of eucalypts. The larvae feed on roots of grasses. They are known in Australia as Christmas Beetles because they usually appear at that time of the year. They belong to the family Scarabaeidae as do the June bugs of the Northern hemisphere which also appear at the height of Summer.
