Many different fabrics are used in home sewing, dressmaking and craft. The choice of fabric for a particular project depends upon the type of garment and skill level of the sewist. Cotton is the most common fabric used in home sewing as it is the easiest for beginners to work with.
Fabric Types:
Cotton is a crisp lightweight fabric which is easy to press. It is excellent for sewing shirts, or dressesand is easy to work with.
Linen is a natural fiber made from flax. It is a strong fabric which softens with washing. It wrinkles easily but is comfortable to wear.
Rayon and Viscose are synthetic fibers. They both have a soft draping quality which is great for blouses and skirts.
